2008 Hunter Safety Course – The Lodge at Gander Mountain,
Thornton, CO
The 2008 Hunter Education Course
was organized and sponsored by your very own Metro Denver
Pheasants Forever chapter. Instructor Cory Christon donated his
time and materials from the Colorado Division of Wildlife to help
support and teach the course. We would like to personally thank
Cory for his dedication to supporting Pheasants Forever and our
youth initiative. We also want to thank both CJ Kausel and Phil
Kelly, our Youth Chair officers for organizing the event and a
special thanks to Gander Mountain for providing The Lodge for the
classroom. Everyone that attended the course had a great time and
we appreciate everyone’s attendance. We hope to organize another
Hunter Education Course in the near future so keep checking back
for new class schedules.

2008 Habitat Project/Campout Jamboree – Banner Lakes State Wildlife
Area
Our inaugural Metro Denver Pheasants
Forever Habitat project was held at Banner Lakes State Wildlife Area
near Hudson Colorado on May 3rd, 2008. Our chapter
worked in conjunction with the Colorado Division of Wildlife area
manager, Chris Mettenbrink and his team to prepare and plant a
total of 250 trees and plum thickets at the site. We had over 30
people attend the event and the kids did an excellent job of
planting the trees and thickets. We were all very proud of the
effort put forth by the younger members and they all had a great
time at the overnight campout and cookout. Later that evening we
all had a great time sitting around the campfire, burning smores and
telling tall tales.
We would like to thank a
couple of individuals and organizations for donating some of the
weed barrier and drip system components for the project. The
Southeast Weld County Conservation district assisted by donating
weed barrier material and we would like to recognize Mr. David Rippe
and Jan Fritch from the district for their support.
We also received a $100.00
donation and a roll of weed barrier from the adjacent land owner,
Mr. Bob Warner. It is through the assistance of individuals and
organizations mentioned above that we can make an even greater
contribution towards conserving and building pheasant habitat.
I also want to thank each
and every PF member and non-PF member that helped out and made the
project a success. My sincerest gratitude to all that helped out.
