Novice Upland Hunts
September 20th and 27th, 2014

Note to MDPF members: We need Novice Mentors and volunteers.  Please contact us if you are available to help.

What: A guided novice upland hunting experience hunting chuckar with pointing dogs at the Bluffs, Coloradoís Premier Upland Hunting Preserve

Cost: Free - A $20 refundable deposit per participant will be required when you register online (refundable upon attending hunt).  Pheasants Forever has to commit to our hosts the number of birds that we will be using and will have to pay for birds even for any no-shows.  Your deposit will be refunded at the Bluffs.

Prerequisites: Hunt participants must have completed Metro Denver Pheasants Forever Wing Shooting Clinic at Barr Lake and have a Hunter Education Card (Hunter Ed. not required for those born before January 1, 1949)

Hunt Dates and Times:  September 20 and September 27, 8:00 AM and 1:00 PM (select one when registering).  Lunch will not be provided.  We will have snacks and drinks available.

Location:  The Bluffs, 76201 East 96th Avenue, Byers, CO 80103

Plan for the day:  Registration will start promptly at 8:00 for morning hunts and 1:00 for the afternoon hunts.  There will be a welcome and safety briefing, a review of the plan for the hunts and a group photo.  A safety check will be performed on all personal shotguns and shotguns will be issued to those who need them.  Novice hunters will then be broken out into their assigned hunting groups with their Guide and Field Safety Officers and shuttled to the field.  The hunt will last approximately 2 hours.  Following the hunt, novices will return to the club house to clean birds and then depart.

What bring and wear:  1) Bring the noviceís hunter education certificate (safety card); if you donít bring it, they wonít be hunting.  2) Do not bring any ammunition; it will be provided.  3) You do not need a hunting (small game) license.

Please wear long pants and sturdy footwear (no sandals or other open footwear - preferably hiking boots), and a blaze orange cap.  We will be walking through tall weeds during the hunts.  Bring layers for your upper body as the temperature will likely change during the hunt and you will be able to remove layers as needed.  Sunscreen and bug spray are recommended as well.

We are looking forward to seeing everyone at the Bluffs.
